The National Library of Spain and the Library of Galicia collect more than 7,000 .gal domains in 2024

Madrid, 13 December 2024.- The National Library of Spain (BNE) has successfully completed the eighth mass collection of the .gal domain, gathering more than 7,000 domains.

During the process, which lasted only two days, more than 1.8 TB of digital information was stored for long-term preservation.
This work was made possible through cooperation with the Library of Galicia and PuntoGal, the entity responsible for managing and promoting .gal domains, which provided the necessary domains to complete this important task. Preserving these web contents will ensure future access to digital resources that reflect Galician cultural identity.

The BNE, as part of its mission to preserve society’s digital memory, used its technological infrastructure to carry out the collection efficiently and without size restrictions per domain.

With this effort, the BNE, the Library of Galicia, and the PuntoGal Association take another step in safeguarding Galicia’s digital history, ensuring that the richness of the Galician language and culture remains accessible to researchers, students, and citizens in the future.

Galician Elections in the Spanish Web Archive Collections
The Library of Galicia played a key role in covering the Galician elections held on February 18, 2024, by selecting websites related to surveys, polls, electoral studies, and election-related information. Additionally, it maintains its own collection with more than 1,000 websites, contributing its knowledge and expertise in preserving Galician heritage.

This effort is part of the commitment of the National Library of Spain and the Library of Galicia to preserve digital heritage and fulfill their mission of guaranteeing access to society’s collective memory.

These contents can be accessed through the Search Tool of the Spanish Web Archive | National Library of Spain. Since they are subject to copyright, they can only be consulted from BNE computers and the network of conservation centers distributed throughout Spain.
